Gerard Strain has more than 20 years of experience in construction law representing owners/developers, general contractors, subcontractors (of all trades), suppliers, and design professionals on private and public projects throughout the east coast, with a primary focus on the NYC metro area. Gerard is a partner at Goetz Fitzpatrick, LLP, a law firm that was founded more than 50 years ago and is an established force in NYC construction law.

Gerard regularly negotiates complex construction contracts, counsels clients through various phases of the project, and handles whatever issues or disputes may arise with an eye toward an amicable resolution, but if necessary, has two decades of experience representing clients in mediation, arbitration, and the courtroom, including federal and appellate courts.

Gerard has represented parties involved with some of the most iconic buildings, projects, and public works throughout the City, as well as commercial build-out projects, warehouses, and those on a smaller scale involving townhouses and condo/co-op units. Gerard also represents several condominium boards on their construction matters. Gerard has been told by those who know him to become a tour guide about what went wrong with a particular building on any given block throughout New York City.

Gerard currently serves on both the Construction Law and Condo/Co-op Law Committees of the NYC Bar Association, works with the Associated General Contractors of New York State to help shape legislation in Albany, and is an active member of the Subcontractor Trade Association. Gerard has been selected to SuperLawyers® each year from 2016-2024.

Outside of the law, Gerard stays active by travelling, snowboarding, clay shooting, bicycling, some trips to the gym, still trying to golf, deep sea fishing, playing guitar (and sometimes drums), and seeing live music.
