A founder of Gertler & Wente Architects in 1985, Mr. Gertler’s experience includes a wide variety of commercial, institutional, retail and residential projects.

Firm experience includes new construction, building expansion, renovation, restoration, and interior design for Commercial, Healthcare, Industrial, Retail, Institutional and Residential clientele.
During Mr. Gertler’s thirty years of architectural experience, he has directed numerous design and construction projects. His real estate clients include Shorenstein Realty, Trinity Real Estate, Sherwood Equities, Jack Resnick & Sons, S.L.Green and C&K Properties and his commercial work includes the renovation of 125 Park Avenue, 160-170 Varick Street, 850 Third Avenue, 345 Hudson Street, 222 Fifth Avenue, 41 Seventh Avenue South; multiple healthcare projects for NY Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell, Columbia University Health Sciences, NYU Langone Medical Center, Mt. Sinai; multiple projects for Rutgers University, new freight distribution centers for Federal Express, a 29-story condo tower in Manhattan, a 200,000 square foot warehouse in Singapore, and numerous other residential and apartment building renovations. He has completed office space for Oracle Corporation, Shorenstein Realty, and Con Edison. Having been published for his article regarding the Landlord-Tenant Work Letter, Mr. Gertler is often consulted in the lease negotiation process by landlords and tenants. He has also been published for an article regarding building renovation and office building lobby design.
Mr. Gertler’s volunteer work includes serving as a Board Trustee and member of the Real Estate Committee for the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services. He previously served as a Board Member for Ittleson Center, a care and treatment center for young children, as a Board Member for Kaplan House, a center for emotionally troubled young men, and on the Volunteer Committee for the UJA. In his hometown of Madison N.J., he serves on the Planning Board, Environmental Commission, was vice chairman of the Madison Historical Preservation Commission and served on the Open Space and Recreation Commission and Madison Parking Garage Commission. He also found time to coach youth baseball and football teams.
Mr. Gertler is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), New York State Association of Architects. As an active member in the AIA, he was chairman of the Professional Practice Committee. Mr. Gertler served on the Advisory Committee of the Downtown New York Streetscape Project. Certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Board, he is registered in New York, New Jersey, Wyoming, Florida, Nevada, Georgia and Massachusetts. Mr. Gertler holds dual degrees in both Architecture and Engineering.
